All GEAR UP students have the opportunity to receive near-peer mentoring from a Let’s Get Ready college student coach. Students are paired with an experienced student mentor who is close in age and has recently had similar post-high school experiences. Working with a coach is done via text message, and students receive weekly support. Eligible students receive free college completion support through graduation.
The GEAR UP team is here to support families with every step of the financial aid process – from initial completion to annual FAFSA renewal. We help students navigate on-campus financial aid resources and identify exactly what they need to feel confident and prepared when connecting with their school's financial aid department.
The Academic Success Center on the CT State Middlesex Campus offers both in-person and online tutoring for students. With a dedicated GEAR UP tutor, the center works to support academic goals through both 1:1 and small group tutoring.
In partnership with Meriden Public Schools, GEAR UP Meriden continues to prioritize SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) needs of students to learn further to cope and deal with their stress and post-high school transitions. While creating safe in-person and virtual learning environments for the students, staff present a variety of lessons on self-awareness, relationships kills, and growth mindset, to name a few, while building a supportive space to encourage discussion and an opportunity to practice these evolving skills.
We are committed to supporting all Meriden Public Schools graduates as they tanstion to college – no matter where they enroll. Our team provides guidance, resources, and check-ins to help students navigate their new academic environments. If we’re unable to offer direct support at a student’s specific campus, we’ll help them identify the right contacts and services available there to ensure they stay connected and confident in their post-secondary journey.
We proudly support our graduates who are pursuing workforce pathways by offering practical tools for success beyond high school. Our team provides personalized assistance with resume, writing, interview preparation, and essential life skills like budgeting and financial planning. We also share information about short-term workforce training and certification programs that align with students' long-term goals.
